After all, you’re the one who will potentially fill the position. You need to know if it’s going to be a good fit, right?

While salary ranges, benefits and schedule flexibility are important details you deserve answers to, hiring managers don’t appreciate questions like those until at least your second interview (or maybe even after they make you an offer).

During your first interview, the “impress me” dance is still in full swing. When a potential employer asks if you have any questions, she doesn’t want inquiries about parking validation; she wants to see if you’re prepared, educated and inquisitive.

Here are six questions to ask at the end of your interview that will help you master the twisted tango of getting hired.

1. “If I were to start tomorrow, what would be the top priority on my to-do list?”

The answer to this question will give you more insight into the current state of the position while showing you’re invested and interested in learning how you can start things off with a bang.

The added bonus lies in the Jedi mind trick: You already have your interviewer picturing you as the position holder.

2. “What would you say are the top two personality traits someone needs to do this job well?”

The answer to this question will be very telling. You can translate “creative” and “intuitive” to mean you will be on your own, while “patient” and “collaborative” could mean the opposite.

Not only will this question allow you to feel out whether you’ll be a good fit, it will get your interviewer to look past the paper resume and see you as an individual.

3. “What improvements or changes do you hope the new candidate will bring to this position?”

This answer can shed light on what might have made the last person lose or leave the job, as well as tip you off on the path to success. Asking this shows an employer you are eager to be the best candidate to ever fill this position.

4. “I know this company prides itself on X and Y, so what would you say is the most important aspect of your culture?”

This question is sure to impress. It shows you researched the company, and gives you a chance to gain insight into what values the company holds highest.

5. “Do you like working here?”

This question might take the interviewer back a bit, but his answer will be telling. A good sign is a confident smile and an enthusiastic “yes,” paired with an explanation as to why. Consider it a red flag if he shifts in his seat, looks away, coughs and starts with “Well…”

Regardless of their answers, employers appreciate the chance to reflect on their own opinions, and it turns the interview process into more of a conversation.

6. “Is there anything that stands out to you that makes you think I might not be the right fit for this job?”

Asking this question can be scary, but also beneficial. Not only does it give you a chance to redeem any hesitations the employer might have about you, it demonstrates you can take constructive criticism and are eager to improve. These are valuable qualities in any candidate.

However, app developers from near and far have created numerous alternate programs that reach much deeper than the shallow base Apple provides. Below are a few of my favorites that I use daily head-to-head with their Apple counterparts.

Sunrise vs. Calendar

While Calendar is extremely clutch when swiping down and viewing my notification center, Sunrise takes the cake with my day-to-day life. The built-in calendar outlines my entire day and also links to Facebook so events that I said I am “Attending” from my profile appear as well. I can also see which of my Facebook friends has a birthday.

My favorite feature is showing the weather throughout the day. There is no longer a need for me to wonder if I need to take my umbrella because of a weather change from my 2p and 4p meetings.

swackett vs. Weather

Speaking of weather, swackett is my official weather app. Not only is the app much more chic than Weather, Weather Bug and The Weather Channel applications (all of which I used in the past), it tells me what the temperature is going to be, what temperature it will actually feel like, an hour by hour forecast and alerts for extreme weather. The best part of the application is that it actually tells you what to wear for the day based off the weather report.

Brands should also get in contact with the developers of swackett to help promote their specific items to be displayed in the app. Last week the app told me to put on my American Eagle jeans for the cool weather. I can only imagine when my virtual me will be toting a Starbucks cup or when that H20 bottle will say Dasani.

Google Maps & Waze vs. Apple Maps

We all know that Apple Maps is last year’s news and Google Maps has clearly came out on top. Now Waze is a newcomer to the maps game that is simply trying to save you a bit of headache and money.

Waze is a GPS map that interactively shows you what is coming up ahead. Other drivers place the information on the map so you see when there is traffic, an accident of a pesky police officer hiding in the trees on I-95 North in Virginia. Now you can always be aware of what is ahead and know when you may need to take the scenic route for about 10 miles.

I sense a Google Maps update coming soon…

Google Chrome vs. Safari

Yet another example of Google coming out on top. This matchup should not even have to be described…

Google Chrome for iPhone has changed my life. Not only can I close my MacBook and open the same tabs on the iPhone app, I can take all of my history and bookmarks with me thanks to my Google Account syncing with the browser. Chrome for iPhone is also much faster and easy on the eye.

Apple is of course being stingy and will not let you make Chrome the default browser but there are certain javascript codes that can make pages open in Chrome once in Safari with one tap of the screen.

*Check back later when I highlight my favorite Google Chrome extensions for Mac / PC*

Evernote vs. Notes & Reminders

Evernote was my best friend until they were hacked last week. Did they not learn from Burger King, Jeep, Donald Trump, etc?

This program allows you to make notes (ex. a grocery list) on the desktop app for your PC / MacBook and then it automatically syncs to your iPhone app. No more pencil and paper and no more ugly yellow notepad background.

AppsGonefree vs. App Store

This free app helps you find more free apps! Every so often those annoying .99 apps that are actually not worth anything go free for 24 hours and AppsGonefree lets you know in a daily digest. Most of them end up being games and photography editing but on occasion you will find a great one.

Other fun apps

Vine - Twitter’s version of Cinemagram. It is a fun way to make short video clips and share them on social media. It is definitely an up and coming platform and brands have been using it to release products and give their consumers a behind the scenes look at company life.

InstaWeather - A fun app that places the weather of your current location over your Instagram photos. Do you attend school in a location where temps are currently under freezing and your spring break destination has 80+ degree weather? Yeah show it off.

IM+ - Google Chat on the go! Always keep up with your GChat buddies even when you are away from the computer.

Blush - Need a good wine for Friday night’s dinner? Use this app to find a red or white wine in your price range in a grocery store near you.

Foodspotting - This app is simply full of pictures of food of restaurants in your local area. Scroll through images until you find a dish that tickles your fancy which should, hopefully, then prompt you to go grab a bite to eat. Food porn on the go.

What are your app suggestions?

Let me start by saying, I had no choice but to be a Carolina Tarheel fan. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been privy to the show that is my father watching Carolina Basketball. You haven’t seen fandom until you’ve seen this man scream, yell, and holler his ass off at a…
